Jackie O never dissapoints

My mom gave me the book A Family Of Poems by Caroline Kennedy for Christmas. I loved reading it, I read it in one sitting. And then I read it again. I'm a HUGE beach lover. I grew up near the beach. I used to go to the beach to reflect when I was happy or sad. I still do. It's sort of my church. I love the sand, love the smell, love shells and sea glass, love feeling the sun on my SPF slathered skin. Basically, if you haven't gathered already I love it all. Upon reading this book of poems I came across this one that I resonated with. It made me smile. My dream is to have a house on the Ocean. If you've seen the movie Something's Gotta Give, I'll take that house, interior decorating and all-it's amazing!!!! Then the poem made me slightly annoyed because here in CT it was snowing today...although the snow was quite pretty I'm overly ready for Spring. Time to plan a little beach trip I think:) Enjoy...

SEA JOY

When I go down by the sandy shore
I can think of nothing I want more
Than to live by the booming blue sea
As the seagulls flutter round bout me.

I can run about-when the tide is out
With the wind and the sand and the sea all about
And the seagulls are swirling and diving for fish
Oh-to live by the sea is my only wish.

I lived on the beach in RI and miss it SO much! Even though I live a few blocks from the lake (here in Chicago), it isn't quite the same. I too want that house from Something's Gotta Give, I have all the photos from it in my files. I LOVE it!

That's lovely. And I love your sentiment that the beach is like your church. I grew up near the beach in southern CA (where there still is--believe it or not--coastline that has not been developed and you can be alone on) and even though I'm in the SF bay area, the beach just isn't the same. When I was in college I could hear the waves crashing from my apartment--the best sound in the world to sleep by.

That poem makes me think of summer! I hope to move to North Carolina someday and buy a house near our summer home. I'm definitely a beach girl at heart.
