In my opinion...a gift in itself.

I'm admitting to you all that I have not yet read a book cover to cover since my son was born. That would be 2 years and 4 months ago. I know. I know. I just haven't had the luxury of having enough down time to do so. When I do have time I choose to spend it cleaning, organizing, sleeping or browsing through magazines because those I can finish. Anyway, I've decided to make a concerted effort to read one of my favorite books again. I love it and thought I'd recommend it to anyone who feels like picking it up. I'll let you know when I've read the last page. Enjoy!

A Gift From The Sea Synopsis:
Over a quarter of a century after its first publication, the great and simple wisdom in this book continues to influence women's lives.

W.O.W.

My husband has great taste. He surprised me with the Tiffany & Co. double strand pearl bracelet for our anniversary. He had given me a beautiful one strand Mikimoto bracelet the night before we got married but some jackass in San Francisco stole it a year after we got married. Once again... jackass. I was so sad because of it's sentimental value. But my frown has turned upside down looking at this beauty. What a treat, can't wait to wear it!

Biopsy update...

Well, I FINALLY heard the news today...my skin biopsy was benign. I called twice earlier this week to see if the results were available, I'm sure the receptionist thinks I'm nuts but the Dr. was 90% sure it was malignant so what's a girl to do for a week following the biopsy...worry, worry like crazy and read as much as possible about basal cell skin cancer. Not a great combo. Anyway, this doesn't change my way of protecting myself and my family from the sun, I will be as careful as possible. In one word I'm "relieved"!

P.S. There is an article in this months SELF magazine on skin cancer-I urge everyone to read up and be even more informed!

The big "C"?

Well, Hunter and I had a little change in plans today. We went to Westport and hit the shops for a while (hello lovelies) and instead of the Children's' Museum I grabbed an iced coffee and we hit a little playground nearby, it was just too nice to be inside. We had so much fun! Met another mom and her two boys; Leo and Jasper and the boys all played together in the sand, they actually shared trucks and played together on the swings and on the slide for almost two hours. It was perfect. Then Hunter came with me to a dermatologist apt. I wanted to get a bump on my upper lip looked at that I noticed these past few months. Well, the Dr. wanted to biopsy it immediately, after looking at the biopsy cells she's 90% sure it's basal cell carcinoma (skin cancer), but we won't know for sure until the labs have their results. After the biopsy the Dr. told me if the results are positive we will have to discuss micrographic surgery. Excellent. (by the way...when I had the biopsy Hunter said "Mama don't jump"-he's such a sweetie) Well, this wasn't how I planned my day, it definitely took the wind out of my sails but what are you going to do? Fingers crossed she's not correct with her hunch. If she is, it's good thing I got it checked out and am dealing with it. It's totally curable. So, for all of you guys and gals out there...get a skin check before the summer starts! And thanks Hunter for making me smile during my ENTIRE Dr's visit:)

Is it really Wednesday?

Wow. This week is flying by for me. Must be those Summer Sassy's come 5pm that have been warp speeding me into the next day. Yeah, that's right I've been crushing fresh mint all week long so far come cocktail time! Anyway, Hunter and I are headed to Westport today to do a little (return/exchane) shopping thing at JCrew and then check out some other stores...after we hit the Children's Museum of course. It's sooooo beautiful here and tomorrow is supposed to get up to at least 70-the beach playground will be our home tomorrow:) Our neighbors across the street are throwing a cocktail party for us on Saturday to introduce us to the neighborhood and all that jazz-super nice of them huh? The Mr. and I got a sitter and are planning on going out to dinner after the party-YEA!!!!!!! And in two weeks another woman is having a party for Hunter and I to introduce us to a bunch of Moms and kids. Again, super nice! It's Spring-people are officially coming out of the woodwork-I love it! The Mr. leaves next Thurs. for his annual golf tournament with his best friends, 4 nights 5 days. He has no idea how good he's got it! If I left here for 4 nights and left child and house in his hands...well, I don't even want to think about it. So, back to the golf trip...he's headed to San Diego. As much as I tease him for leaving me for that long I'm so glad he does it. He had a really great group of guy friends and they all have such an amazing time together. Their trip is called SWAC: Southwest Annual Classic. It's been going on since before we tied the knot. They have hats embroidered, golf shirts made and someone always wins the flask at the end of the trip and that gets engraved too. They are quite a group those "SWAC" boys! His trip is making me so excited for my little girls reunion in Boston this summer:) Okay, off to shower and hit the road. Happy Wednesday!

P.S. Who doesn't love a little Hydrangea!!!???

"Summer Sassy" anyone?

The sun was shining here in CT today and it hit 71 degrees. PERFECT! What a great excuse to break out a summer cocktail. I needed two or three after this past week. This is the cocktail I whipped up tonight... I'm calling it the "Summer Sassy".

I didn't measure anything but here's what I did...

I used a double old fashioned glass
Filled it 3/4 full with crushed ice
Poured about 2 shots worth of Grey Goose Vodka in
Added about two shots of Smuckers Diet Pink Grapefruit Juice (made with Splenda)
Added 1 shot of Soda water
Then stirred in fresh crushed mint

How lovely is that?

It was a bust.

Well, as mentioned above the trunk show in Weston sucked. All of the vendors did poorly compared to what they usually do at these kinds of shows (which kind of made me feel better). There were great vendors there: CK Bradley, Ellabelle Creations, Fruit Punch Deigns, Notables, Chickabrooms, Smathers and Bronson, Nantucket Wild Gourmet, & Deux Amis and me... Pink Lobster. Unfortunately, turnout was horrible and my location was basically in a closet. Kidding about the closet... but really... my space was awful. I sold about 7 items. That was BBAAAAADDD. Oh well. Onwards and upwards! I'm not going to think about it much because it's done. Time to think about my next booking:)

On a brighter note....Hunter had a BALL with my parents this past weekend on the Cape. They took him into Boston for a photo shoot and this was one of the pics taken. Can't wait to see the rest because this one freaks me out a little. He looks about 5 (he's only 2.3 yrs. old). And that hair...OH....MY.....GOD....should I have that cut? I just love long hair on little guys!!??

Happy Weekend to all!

Headed to the Cape!

Well, Hunter and I are packed up and ready to head to the Cape tomorrow. First, we will stop in Saybrook, CT and spend the day with my friend Cindy and her kids. Cant wait! I'm loving being so close to my friend whom I met years ago on Martha's Vineyard! We later became roommates in Boston and have been friends ever since. We have lived very far apart for years so driving an hour is nuthin' these days. It's so cute to see our kids play together. In some ways it feels like just yesterday that we were college kids on the Vineyard having the best summer ever. The thing I love about Cindy is her spirit hasn't changed, she's still as fun and "together" as ever! And, she's one of those friends that even if you haven't spoken to in months you can just pick up where you left off and it's as if time hasn't passed. I'm lucky.

Okay, so after my visit with "C" and kiddos, Hunter and I are off to the Cape. My parents are going to hang with Hunter while I finish some much needed preperation for my Trunk show next Tuesday. I'm way behind. Not gonna lie. Most likely I won't be posting until sometime next week but you can bet I'll be lurking:) Have a great weekend all!

Day Dream Believer!

Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.
-Edgar Allen Poe

Okay, truth be told I'm posting a quote I posted over a year ago. Why? I really like it. I mainly like it for the simple fact that makes me feel like I'm normal...'cause this lady does A LOT of dreaming during the day:) If I took this quote literally it would mean I'm overly informed, extremely zealous, super savvy, unbelievably perceptive and "tuned in" like no one's business. Believe me that would be pushing it:) But hey, like I said: here's to day dreamin' my friends!

Just in case you may be taking a little trip to San Francisco I thought I'd let you in on my FAVORITE sweet spot there. It's called Kara's Cupcakes. A sleek storefront, excellent choice of organic cupcakes in either mini or regular size along with beautiful packaging if you are planning on bringing someone the sweets for desert or just for the fun of it! They are located @ 3249 Scott Street (at Chestnut) San Francisco, California. I used to visit this place frequently when I lived in San Francisco a few years ago...let me know what you think of it if you go! Enjoy!
